Nederland staat bovenaan in de Tobacco Interference Index van Global Center for Good Governance in Tobaco Control. Dat is vooral te danken aan de rechtszaak die Rookpreventie Jeugd in 2014 aanspande tegen de staat over de naleving van FCTC-artikel 5.3. Alleen het parlement ligt nog open voor beïnvloeding door de tabaksindustrie.

The Netherlands is at the top of the Tobacco Industry Interference Index of the Global Center for Good Governance in Tobaco Control. This is mainly due to the lawsuit that Youth Smoking Prevention filed against the Dutch state in 2014 about compliance with FCTC Article 5.3. Now, only parliament is still open to influence by the tobacco industry.

De Nederlandse overheid is er in 2020 redelijk in geslaagd om de tabaksindustrie op afstand te houden. Dat blijkt uit de Global Tobacco Industry Interference Index 2021 waarop Nederland wereldwijd op de zesde plek staat. Maar Marc Willemsen van het Trimbos-instituut waarschuwt ook, want er is nog altijd onwenselijk contact tussen de douane en de tabaksindustrie.
